Mobility Access Information
The Away With the Birds performance on Saturday the 30th August is the only performance accessible for wheel chair users and people with limited mobility (this is due to a non accessible charter ferry being the only option to take audience off the island on the 29th). Please read the following information and if in any doubt contact Emmie to get further information by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 0141 271 4722 or 07796670886.
Getting to Canna
Wheelchair accessible accommodation can be hard to find in the Mallaig area, it may be necessary to consider Fort William, we can advise on several hotels. There is a wheelchair accessible taxi service operating in the Mallaig area and booking is essential. Please contact Emmie (above) for details.
The Cal Mac ferry to Canna has a ramped access and a lift to the cafeteria level of the ferry.
It has an accessible toilet. If you require assistance please let us let us know and we can arrange accordingly. There will be an Away With the Birds representative present on the ferry on the way to Canna on Saturday morning.
The train to Mallaig is wheelchair accessible but it is always advised to call in advance to let Scotrail know if you need assistance.
On the island The distance from the ferry terminal to the performance area is 700m and is a farm track which is quite rough in places. There will be stop off points along the way with seats for those who need them. !
The areas we use for the performance are all accessible by wheel chair but other activities might not be. It is possible to get access to Canna House (a National trust Property) but only in manual or smaller powered chairs.
Amenities on Canna
There is a small cafe, accessible by temporary ramp and a small shop access by permanent ramp.
There are accessible toilets at the ferry terminal and at the shop which is adjacent to the performance site and next to the shop.
There is a marquee for audience members in the grounds of Canna house, it is accessed via a gravel path with a mild gradient.
